The decision at a glance
- Retain plans, addenda and estimating access when a bid is active.
- Use early project research to decide whether a development warrants investigation.
- Evaluate Radar where the missing input is project context, then verify the procurement route.
Data Center Radar is an alternative to evaluate for early U.S. data center project research. If you depend on ConstructConnect for bid documents or estimating, that is a separate requirement. Start by identifying whether you need earlier discovery, better pursuit context or a replacement for an existing bidding function.
Choose for the project stage
| Need | Option to evaluate |
|---|---|
| Investigating a proposed development | Data Center Radar |
| Commercial project leads and bidders | ConstructConnect C3 |
| Bid documents and estimating links | ConstructConnect C1 |
| Manufacturer specification analysis | ConstructConnect Analytics C2 |
Preserve the functions your estimators use
ConstructConnect describes plans, specifications, bidder lists and estimating integrations. Its Analytics offering also addresses manufacturer specification positioning. C1, C2, C3
Our recommendation is to evaluate those functions against a real estimate before making a change. A resource that helps discover a development may still leave an estimator needing drawings, addenda and an invitation from the responsible buyer. Research and bid preparation need different acceptance tests.
What early project research adds
Before a formal bid appears, a construction team may want to understand whether a development fits its footprint and relationships. A planning record, owner announcement or defined expansion can justify investigation. The appropriate action could be monitoring, relationship development or preparation for a future qualification request.
Evaluate Radar’s public previews and deeper member research on whether they help clarify that decision. Look for a supported stage, a defined scope and an explanation of material unknowns. A project’s visibility in a research resource does not prove that any package is currently available to bid.
A practical evaluation sequence
- Choose a development that has not reached a confirmed bid stage.
- Write down the evidence needed to justify a business development conversation.
- Compare the research against that need and document the next appropriate action.
- For an active bid, separately verify drawings, addenda, buyer and closing requirements.
Keep these stages visible in your internal pipeline. An early lead can be valuable without becoming near-term revenue. A formal bid deserves estimating attention only after your team confirms scope, fit and the procurement route. Mixing the two can make a large prospect list look more mature than it is.
When ConstructConnect is the better fit
We would keep ConstructConnect in the shortlist when your priority is a bidding or estimating workflow across commercial construction. Radar is a candidate when the missing piece is data center development research. Test the added context before replacing any function your team depends on.
Apply the buying criteria to a public preview
Radar’s public Faribault, Minnesota preview describes supplemental environmental review and labels the recorded stage Planned. The preview leaves the project event date and Radar review date unestablished. We checked what this public page displays on October 3, 2026; that visit does not independently reverify the project’s present status. R3
An early planning signal can support monitoring and a qualification conversation. It cannot supply an estimator with an issued drawing set. Test the alternative on early research, and preserve your access to formal documents when the work moves into bidding.
What Radar currently makes available
Public previews show general location, a headline and recorded stage. Membership adds recorded developer and contractor information, available project specifications, source collections and available history. Research depth and verification vary by record. The public membership page includes a clearly marked fictional sample to demonstrate the format; it is not an actual project or an available bid. R1, R2
Radar’s public offer, checked October 3, 2026, is $49 per month or $490 per year, with the same research tools in both plans. Confirm current terms on the membership page. The free digest requires email confirmation and is sent when new reviewed previews are available, at most once a week. R1, R5
Put the research into practice
- Project research for commissioning firms: Distinguish an early project signal from the scope and schedule evidence needed to plan an engagement.
- Project research for architecture and engineering firms: Review the design engagement window before treating a project as a later-stage bidding opportunity.
